The ambient light was almost gone and the shutter speeds were long for hand holding the camera. The off camera strobe was positioned close to Elizabeth on camera right and was the main light on her. The rest of the scene was exposed by "dragging the shutter" using the aperture priority setting on the camera. This technique prevented the flash from overexposing the foreground elements in the photo.
