The lesson was about photographing groups. This is an example of what not to do. The photographer must get people's attention! Notice that the person on the right is closer to the strobe light and is overexposed. It is important to place each person so they receive proper lighting. Notice that this "straight from the camera" image is tightly composed, and there isn't much room to crop the image. (This was an image made to help set the lighting exposure, so I wasn't trying to work with the people. I apologize to those I caught with a less than flattering look.)
